BRAKE STUDS
If you plan to klunk-out an old Schwinn - and actually ride it as intended - you'll want the the performance, handling and durability a tubular cromo fork provides. You'll also want better brakes, but few if any have addressed this need in recent history. Drum brakes are period-correct and beautiful to look at, but they suck heinously for anything more than townie life. Cantilevers and V-Brakes are cheap, plentiful, much more effective, and with the proper choices, you can maintain a period-correct look too. If that's something you care about...
